Chapter 8 · 8.3
The Nextcloud app on Android
The Nextcloud app for Android gives you access to your files wherever you are, automatically uploads your photos and can scan documents.
Installing
- Open Google Play and search for Nextcloud, or tap this link on your phone: Nextcloud in Google Play. If you'd rather not use Google Play, the same app is available on F-Droid.
- Tap Install.
- Open the app and tap Login.
- Under Server address https://…, enter the address of your WebOké Nextcloud, for example https://demo.webokecloud.nl, and continue.
- The login screen of your Nextcloud opens: Connect to your account. Tap Login. The screens look just like those on the iPhone; see the image in The Nextcloud app on iPhone or iPad.
- Enter your username and password, followed by the login code from your e-mail or your authenticator app.
- Tap Grant access. The app opens with your files.
So you don't need to create an app password. If logging in doesn't work, you can also log in with a QR code (Login via QR code); you'll find out how to create that code in The Nextcloud app on iPhone or iPad.
Permissions
The app asks for a few permissions. Grant them if you want to use the feature:
| Permission | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Notifications | Notifications from your Nextcloud, such as a shared file, and the progress of uploads. |
| Photos and videos, or Access to all files | Needed for automatic upload (Automatically uploading photos) and to upload files from your phone. |
| Camera | For scanning documents and logging in with a QR code. |
| No battery restriction | So automatic upload keeps running in the background. The app will let you know itself if Battery optimisation is blocking uploads. |
The app in brief
Tap the three lines in the top left for the menu. There you'll find, among other things:
- All files and Personal files: your folders and files.
- Favourites, Recent files, Shared and On device (what you've made available offline).
- Media: all your photos and videos.
- Team folders, if you have any.
- Deleted files, Uploads, Activities and Notifications.
- Settings, including Auto upload and Sync calendar and contacts (this sets up DAVx5 for you, see Calendar and contacts on Android with DAVx5).
Use the blue + in the bottom right to upload files, create a folder, scan a document (Scan a document with your camera) or create a new document.
Multiple accounts
In the menu, tap your name or profile photo and choose Add account. Under Manage accounts you can switch between accounts or remove one.
Please note: removing an account from the app also deletes the files the app had downloaded to your phone. Everything stays in place in your Nextcloud.
For opening and editing documents in the app, see Euro-Office in the Nextcloud app on your phone or tablet in the Euro-Office manual.
